Island Life

It's been another great week in Martha's Vineyard. I hope everyone's week went well. We've had some good success this last week, and the weather was absolutely beautiful. It was warm enough to wear a short-sleeve shirt.

Here's a funny story. We have to walk a bunch in this area. Luckily, there's a pretty good public transit system. Anyway, my companion and I were going to stop by a potential investigator after dinner one day. We got off at the nearest bus stop and started walking to his house. After about ten minutes, we realized that we had to hurry if we wanted to catch the bus to get home. Since it's still "winter", the bus isn't very frequent. Anyway, we started walking as fast as we could in the hopes that we could set a return appointment with the potential investigator and make it back to the bus stop in time. We made it to this man's house with about 15 minutes to get back to the bus. We asked if we could come by another time, but he insisted on inviting us in. It was a funny reversal of roles. Typically we're trying to get in, and they don't want us to. He eventually convinced us to come in right then, and we had a great lesson. He seems pretty interested. Anyway, we had to walk like 2 and a half miles back to our apartment after that. The both of us were absolutely exhausted from how much we walked that day.

I've learned a bunch about patience this week. I've experienced many trials on my mission so far, and it's often hard to be truly patient. I love this scripture in the New Testament. "2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into many afflictions; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience" (JST James 1:2-3). Patience is the ability to endure without complaint. The gift of patience has the ability to bless us so much. I've gained a great testimony of the peace that can come as we try to find joy despite our circumstances. It often helps to make our trials seem less difficult. I hope you all have a great week

Love,
Elder Rogers
