Martha's Vineyard

Hey Everybody,

I had another great week, and I hope that all's well with you. Life in Martha's Vineyard is unlike my last area. I don't have a car anymore, which is actually more of a blessing. It's so much more fun to walk around everywhere, and it's less stressful than having a car. Anyway, Island life is a little different. We take a ferry to the mainland like twice a week. We go over for District Meeting on Fridays, and another time for various reasons. Anyway, it's been pretty nice weather this week. I can't imagine walking around in the dead of winter. Elder Gardner (my new companion) is pretty awesome, too.

I'm actually pretty lucky to serve in Martha's Vineyard right now. The zone just blitzed the island two weeks ago, so we have a pretty big list of potential investigators. Supposedly work is usually pretty slow on the island, but we've been pretty busy every day. We actually got to go to the Temple again today. It was pretty nice. We had to take the ferry over last night and sleep over at the District Leader's apartment.

On my mission, I've gained such a better understanding of faith. As I've studied, I've seen how simply faith can start. However, it is much more complex to live by faith. Alma questions the people in Zarahemla  "Do ye exercise faith in the redemption of him who created you? Do you look forward with an eye of faith, and view this mortal body raised in immortality, and this corruption raised in incorruption, to stand before God to be judged according to the deeds which have been done in the mortal body?" (Alma 5:15) I've come to realize that with faith, we can gain our own understanding of Jesus Christ. It's one of the most important and difficult principles of the gospel. Faith comes as we righteously study, pray, and follow through with God. It comes as we learn to trust him and strive to believe Him.
Love,
Elder Rogers
