Duty to God

Hey everyone,

My week's been pretty much fantastic. We had exchanges, and zone conference. I'm really excited for this next week, too. On Wednesday, all the new missionaries and their companions get to go to the Temple. So, that'll be really nice. We also have transfer-texts this Friday, so I'll find out if I'm staying in Ellington. It's been a fun 3 transfers, an we'll see if I can make it 4.

I saw a miracle on exchange this week. an Elder and I stopped and talked to a guy on the street. After a good conversation, he accepted our invitation to share a message with him. We were able to go back on Friday and talk about the Restoration. He was really intrigued with our focus on families and being able to live with them forever. It was awesome.

I found a passage of scripture that struck me really hard this week. It's Alma 7:22-25. This is right after he lays some heavy doctrine on repentance down.

22 And now my beloved brethren, I have said these things unto you that I might awaken you to a sense of your duty to God, that ye may walk blameless before him, that ye may walk after the holy order of God, after which ye have been received.
23 And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.
24 And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works.
25 And may the Lord bless you, and keep your garments spotless, that ye may at last be brought to sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the holy prophets who have been ever since the world began, having your garments spotless even as their garments are spotless, in the kingdom of heaven to go no more out.

I love how he says that his words are intended to "awaken" us, not scare us. I think it's too easy to get depressed when we look at what we're doing wrong. The blessings promised in verse 25 are fantastic. May we all strive to fulfill our duty to God and receive these great blessings.

Love you all,
Elder Rogers
